You love your parents. I don’t understand why so many books and movies portray parents as buffoons at best, or even abusive and cruel. Sure, I had issues with my parents growing up, but I still loved them, and I knew they loved me. And I know my kids had problems with me as they grew up, and I sure wasn’t perfect. But I always loved them, and I think they knew it. I think that’s a more common experience.
